Halloween Pet Safety Tips

1. Keep your pets away from the front door.

  • Dogs may feel the need to protect the home from all the ghosts and goblins crowding your door as soon as you open it.

2. Keep decorations out of your pet’s reach.

  • Not only can they ruin your decorations, but they could become injured or eat even eat them! Eating the decorations is especially serious because it could possibly result in very expensive surgery to remove the decoration from their intestines.

3. Do not give your dog or cat candy.

  • Chocolate contains a substance called theobromine, which can be lethal if ingested.
  • Sticks in caramel apples can also cause an obstruction or perforation in the intestines if swallowed.
  • Foil wrappers can become as dangerous as razors when swallowed.

4. Keep your pet inside.

  • Vicious pranksters will be out and they often make the news with their teasing, causing injury, and stealing of pets.
  • Don’t take your pet to walk the neighborhood with you and your trick-or-treaters. You know the monsters and vampires are only children in costumes, but your pet does not and may bite out of fear.
